The Bad Ending is one of the two endings that the player can accomplish in Maid of Sker. The player can achieve this ending if they have given all of the cylinders to Elisabeth Williams.
Overview[]
This ending can be achieved by selecting the dialogue option "Yes, I trust you, here are the cylinders my love." with Elisabeth. She can be found at the Grand Harmonium after defeating Isaac. Please note that all four cylinders must be in the player inventory for this option to be enabled.
Thomas, blindly trusting her, gives her all four cylinders. Once on her hands, her tone changes to a more sinister one while placing them on the piano and restarting the Siren's Song. While she follows along with her singing, the floor under both of them will slowly lower, and Thomas will start to suffer the effects of the Siren's Song. Behind him is Abraham, who is keeping a close look on him while they reach the insides of the cave where the siren is located at. Once they reach the end, she will leave the platform and await on the sides while Quiet Ones and her father proceed to drop the cage containing the siren to kill it.
She will then order Thomas to deliver the final blow to the siren by shooting a harpoon gun. Once this has been done, she will rejoice in its death while a yellow spirit leaves the siren. Then, turns towards him and orders Abraham to take him away, making him place a sack on his head before taking him away.
"From death and discord came new order, through the iron will neccesary to impose it."
"A new song was born from the darkness, and together they ruled the new dawn."
This would trigger the events for the spin-off videogame Sker Ritual.
Cutscene Transcript[]
Elisabeth with an urgent expression, gets close to Thomas.
"Then we cannot waste any time...Quickly! Give them to me." Elisabeth waits while Thomas hands over a cylinder.
"Thank you, Thomas. There will be a place for you..." Elisabeth tells him with a somber voice, who gets a darker shade around her eyes.
Elisabeth is them walking calmly towards the Grand Harmonium, and starts placing all four cylinders in the device. Once this has been done, the mechanism activates and a music starts playing. Elisabeth then stands in front of it, looking towards Thomas.
"*Singing*" Elisabeth starts singing, who at first seems like an end towards the madness surrounding the hotel. Unfortunately, Thomas realizes too late that he has been duped, as the platform starts lowering while the intensified influence of the song starts controlling his own actions. Before he knows it, Abraham is behind, to the right, keeping a hand on him.
While the song continues, it is then revealed the nightime interior of the Cavern, who harbors the remains of the HMS Providence shipwreck, alongside a caged Siren suspended in the air with a harpoon gun in front of it. A couple of armed Quiet Ones await to the sides, while Isaac with a lit torch stands next to the lever that controls the cage that holds the creature. Once the elevator has reached the floor, Elisabeth walks forward while Isaac interacts with the lever, dropping the cage on top of an inflammable liquid. A Quiet One then gets close with a pike, and starts stabbing the creature, who wails in pain. Then, Isaac drops his torch onto the inflammable liquid, which immediately ignites and starts burning the creature alive.
"Kill it, for me" Elisabeth orders Thomas, who hesitates for a few seconds before being pushed by Abraham to comply.
Thomas slowly walks towards the harpoon gun while the Quiet One keep stabbing the creature with the pike, while wailing in pain and trying to escape the fire under it. He simply points the gun and fires it, landing a critical hit on the creature, who gives out its last scream before dying. A yellow energy then emerges from its body and starts going up into the air, before vanishing. Elisabeth is starting at it and opening her arms wide, as if this were a ritual where she is being blessed with its powers. Then, turns towards Thomas, and signals Abraham to take Thomas away. Thomas, confused, turns towards Abraham, who simply places a bag on his head before the screen goes dark.
"From death and discrod came new order, through the iron will necessary to impose it.
A new song was born from the darkness, and together they ruled the new dawn." The voice of Elisabeth voices the small epilogue, before the credits start.
Notes[]
- The dark circles under Elisabeth eyes are more notable once this path is chosen.
- It is never shown how Abraham is capable of appearing right alongside Thomas without making noise whatsover.
- Once Elisabeth places all four cylinders into the Grand Harmonium, the Siren's Song is intensified, which in turn makes Thomas fall under its influence (as shown by the slightly grayscaled view).
- Once the inside of the cave is shown, most of the Quiet Ones will be in here, including both Henry and Isaac.
- It is never shown how both Henry and Isaac arrived in here, since the only shown path here is the elevator at the Grand Harmonium.
- It is also implied that the attack done to Isaac during his fight was only temporary.
- When the cage is dropped, the door does not swing open. Instead, it remains closed (in stark contrast to the same event during the Good Ending).
- This ending means the death of the Siren at the hands of Thomas.
- This ending leaves the fate of Thomas unknown, as he is taken away by Abraham before placing a bag on his head.
- This ending leaves the fate of Calliope unknown, as she is no longer shown in further scenes.
- This ending also uses two different background songs, being more noticeable seconds after Elisabeth stops singing (which sets a more dark and hopeless theme).
